So you go to America and try to write about small towns. But one day, a tornado attacked America. Then, you thought that the tornado's story will be a big money. You recorded some videos and interviewed in the shelter, and incorporated them in to your story. The story was a big hit and you got a large sum of money. I read this book during class. "The History of the Football"

イメージ
"These days most people have a football to play with." "In the old days there were no real footballs." "Stones do not make very good footballs." The book, as the title suggests, is about the history of football. I was surprised by the fact that they used to play football with the bladder of a pig. Then I learned that various innovations were made to make the ball what it is today. If you're a football player, you should read this book. I like watching soccer games, but I didn't know the history of soccer. And I was very surprised by the fact that people played soccer using the bladder of a pig. At first I thought it was a little bit harsh, but considering that football wouldn't have been created today without it, I thought it was amazing who came up with it. "Jo asked her grandma where wood comes from." "Grandma said she would show Jo." Grandma said, "First we have to plant the seed." Jo said, "I like digging." One day, a grandmother of the main character "Jo" planted a seed to explain how the woods grow to her grandson. They raise the seed for many years and one day, It's sprouted. But the storm attacked and the tree was blown down. They felt sad, but using the tree, they made a chair. In this book, I was impressed with the fact that they don't just plant a seed, but grow it well to the end. It's a shame that the storm knocked over their tree, but I felt that they were happy to be able to make a new chair. [vocabulary] saw のこぎり blown down 吹き倒す

"Don't be a Beetroot!"

"On a hot day some people go as red as a beetroot." "They look silly and their skin feels sore." "If you want don't want to look like a beetroot on a hot day, follow this four step plan."    The book features a bright red creature. The setting is the beach. People don't want to look like the bright red creature, so they wear clothes, hats, and sunscreen to protect themselves from the sun and introduce the reader to it. I've never used sun protection before, but by reading this book, I felt a little bit scared. I've also heard that it increases the risk of cancer, so I'll be more careful from now on. We can get some new information from this book. [vocabulary] slip on 着る peak 帽子のつば flap 折り返し beetroot ビートという野菜の根

"Pirates Ahoy!"

イメージ
"I'm bored," said Sam, one wet day. "Let's visit Strange Street." "Good idea," agreed the others. It was Sam's turn to push the magic button. In this story, four children are the main characters. They were bored, so they used a magical elevator to get to a strange world. There was an ocean and when they looked into the distance, they saw pirates. They were a little scared at first, but they fought off the pirates and came back to the real world again. However, one of the four was so terrified that he was frightened even if he came back. I wanted to go to the strange world, too. A lot of things were written about that couldn't happen in the real world and required a lot of imagination. But I felt that if such a world really existed, I would probably give it a try. [vocabulary] whoosh ヒューと飛ぶ sack 大袋 flour 小麦粉 keg 小樽 rum ラム酒

"It was a hot day. the classroom was stuffy. Nobody felt like working." "We need to some fresh air," said Mr. Hopkins. "I think we will take our reading books and go to the park. We can sit and read under the trees." One day, students read books in the classroom. But the temperature was so high that they couldn't concentrate on it. So, they decided to go to the park and read books under the trees. But the park was full of garbage. So they started clean it up, and they made a robot out of the garbage they collected. By reading this story, I've noticed that there are many ways to use trash. I would like to investigate how to use the garbage we produce in our daily lives.  [vocabulary] untidy 乱雑な、だらしない crossly 不機嫌に、残念に grumble 不満を言う rubbish ごみ、ガラクタ

"Alien Landing"

"Aliens from the planet Zog are in their spaceship." "They are flying to Earth. They have heard about the Earth people, and want to meet them." This story is written from an alien perspective. It describes the Earth from an alien's point of view and explains what the black, white and yellow parts of the Earth are. By reading this, you may be able to find the new information about the earth. I didn't know that the yellow parts of the earth are deserts. And I want to know the characters of other planets. Maybe, try to find out planets that have similar points with earth is interesting. [vocabulary] bump 隆起、こぶ lorry 貨物自動車、大型トラック

"When Grandad Was at School"

イメージ
"I like Walking to school with Grandad."                "He went to the same school as me." This story tells the differences between school life in the past and today. The main character goes to the school where his grandfather graduated. He likes to go there with his grandfather and talks about the old school life. I think that the teachers used to be more demanding than they are now. There were some expressions in this book that made me fear for the old teachers. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to be a teacher. [vocabulary]  hold out 差し出す

"Would You Be A Bee?"

イメージ
"You could buzz around in the sky, but you would have to share your home with many other bees."  "You could sip nectar from hundreds of flowers, but you would have to carry back lots of pollen."                                                                           This story explains the life of bees, with a lot of pictures. And, this also introduce about how the bees hatch from an egg. It made me a little sad to read that even if bees work hard to build a beehive, in the end it will be destroyed by people and replaced with various products. At the end of the story, there was a question "Would you be a bee?"  When I first saw the title, I wanted to be a bee, but through this book I learned about the difficulty of living for bees and now I know I never want to be. [vocabulary]  buzz 動き回る  nectar 花の蜜

The Global Lounge

イメージ
I found a book, "THE VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR" at Global Lounge today. This book is also found in Japan, and I have read this many times. But, the story's impression between written by Japanese and English was a little different. The English one is a little difficult, but both of them are really interesting and reminded me of my  childhood. I also book a tutoring session with Vio there. I'd like to talk with him about many things like my goals, and future, and so on. He said that the Global Lounge's purpose is to support the student's learning, so I want to use there many times.

There were a lot of characters and it was confusing. There were many words I didn't understand, and I felt it was too early for me to understand them. But I really enjoyed the atmosphere. I want to try again after a little time. This book was read in class. I'm sure you've all heard of it, but I read it because of my familiarity with Shrek. However, it was a little difficult for me. "The Mystery of manor Hall"

イメージ
I read " The Mystery of Manor Hall". This book is a mystery book, and it's the first time I've read one of these types of books. I thought it would be difficult to convey the horror of the book if it wasn't in Japanese, but this book is one short sentence and the words are simple, so I could approximately understandable. It was an impossible story to tell in real life, but I think it was interesting because it was. I read this book in class. I love mystery-type books, so I really enjoyed it. It's unpredictable and I think everyone will enjoy it. I highly recommend reading it.

"The hat"

イメージ
I read "The hat". This book was handed out by the teacher and we read it in class. Some of the words were a little difficult to understand, but the fun illustrations and lots of conversation made it a very enjoyable to read.                                                    This is an unrealistic story where the protagonist meets many people and has many accidents through the main character's hat.  I read this book in class and found it interesting that I came across so many different people over the hats of the characters. I wanted to have this kind of encounter.

"What's That Smell?"

イメージ
I read "What's That Smell?" borrowed from the PUK's library. The book is written in very simple English and I was able to read it easily. Moreover, the illustrations in the book were very interesting and I wanted to read the continuation. It consists of 32 pages and I gave it a rating of 9. This was a slightly interesting book that could have happened in real life. In the middle of the book, the characters got confused, but I think I understood them well. It was an interesting book that was easy to read and I would recommend it to everyone.
